About Benín
Benín er land í Vestur-Afríku og var áður kallað „Dahómey“ eftir konungsríkinu Dahómey sem Frakkar lögðu undir sig 1892-1894. Landið á stutta strandlengju við Benínflóa, sem áður var þekktur viðkomustaður þrælasala, og dregur nafn sitt af honum. Landið á landamæri að Tógó í vestri, Nígeríu í austri og Búrkína Fasó og Níger í norðri. Höfuðborgin er Porto-Novo en aðsetur stjórnarinnar er í Cotonou, sem jafnframt er stærsta borgin og efnahagsleg höfuðborg landsins. Benín er hitabeltisland sem flytur út bómull og pálmaolíu. Sjálfsþurftarbúskapur er útbreiddur.
